Happy new year! Chinese people all over the world will be celebrating the coming of the new year. The festival which traditionally lasts 15 days begins on the first day of the new lunar month.
There are 12 animals in the chinese zodiac, each year is attributed to one animal. 2008 is the year of the Rat. Google China is celebrating with this festive image which replaces their normal Google logo.

Google is China’s second most used search engine falling behind the much more established Baidu. Baidu have also a festive Chinese New Year image.

They don’t have that image on google for .com and co.uk, I think they should!
I like the google’s logo. the mouse in Bai du’s logo looks like a bad guy.
i’ve notice firecrackers on the normal google search. I thought that was a nice touch!
The one from Google is really cute especially the two baby rats and the inverted character ‘Fu’ is a nice touch. So, ‘Fu Dau’ to everyone (blessings has arrived).

I teach ICT in China and when my students think I’m not looking, I can tell you that they are all using Baidu.
In class I teach them about search using Google and the majority of the advanced functionality (such as Boolean search) doesn’t work in Baidu (or at least didn’t last time I checked). But for Chinese language search, Baidu seems to be the best tool for them.
Stephen, baidu definitely seems to be the SE of choice for china. even the chinese overseas students in the UK all use baidu, even for english lanuguage searches.
Hi Dave, I just checked Alaxa and in Australia (where I’m originally from), Baidu is number 53 according to Alexa Rank. That’s pretty high considering that the vast majority of Australian’s haven’t even heard of it!
